Shows the "Extreme Line of Outposts in 1845" and the major roads leading west. Four military departments are also named: Department of the West, of the Pacific, of Texas, and of New Mexico. Includes a number of short lived forts west of the Mississippi.
Highlights the "Route of the Rifle Regt. from Ft. Leavenworth to Fort Vancouver in 1849", Capt. Ingall's Route" from Salt Lake City to Oregon, "Col. Steptoe's Route" from Salt Lake City to Sacramento, and "Lt. Mowry's Route" from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles.
Map by Quartermaster General, 35th Congress, 1st Session, Senate Ex. Doc. 11. Lithograpy by H. Lawrence. James Buchanan was president at the time. 13.5 in. x 30 in., with one inch border around.
