Samuel Stillman Greene (1810-1883) was an educator, writer, superintendent of a number of schools, and a polymath who, during his lifetime, turned his scholarly and accomplished eye to grammar (this was the first of eight separate books on grammar) mathematics, civil engineering, natural philosophy and astronomy.
