Laid-in is a sample ballot, prepared for Frank C. Jordan, Secretary of State, for the information of County Clerks. Heading reads: "Official Presidential Primary Election Ballot / Republican Party/.../May 14, 1912. Upon is printed an image of two pointing hands, pointing to the two places voters are advised to mark their ballots. On the verso of this single sheet, folded once, is an extract from Governor Johnson's speech at Macdonough Theater, Oakland, April 19th, 1912, reading in part: "There is a third candidate and he comes into the State to spend nearly four weeks for the purpose of obtaining 26 delegates -- 26 pitiful delegates! and then announces a candidacy that is national in name, but not in fact!...when a man claims the right to hold all the good, he is simply overcome with a sense of his own importance..."
