Boston, Mass: Ticknor and Fields, 1863. First Edition. Hardcover. Small octavo, 7.4 in. x 4.8 on., pp. 319. Illustrated with tissue-guarded frontis of the author. Contemporary blue-green "zigzag-grain" cloth boards with double frame and circle emblem stamped in blind to front and back Rebacked with black leather spine; five raised-bands to spine with gilt title and fleurons to spine panels. Corners and edges rubbed but restored. Brown endpapers with brown silk ribbon. Advertising page (for Thoreau's other two Ticknor and Field's publications) bound between pp. 22/23. Previous owner's name to verso of front free endpaper. Light spotting to endpapers, title page, and pages 20-25 (adjacent to advertising page). Two inches of front hinge cracked (mull unexposed).
