About the excellent student, Victor Owen Jones. who was presented with this copy: Victor Owen was born in 1905 in Connecticut. He studied in Switzerland and then at the Choate School in Connecticut, and graduated from Harvard university in 1928. He joined the Boston Globe as a college corredpondant while still at Harvard, and then as staff writer in 1929, first as stop writer and editor. He was war corespondent during World War II, reporting from Europe. He became night editor in 1945, managing editor in 1955, and executive editor in 1962. He retired from the Globe in 1965, but continued as columnist. He passed away in 1970.
