Philadelphia, PA: J.L. Smith, 1888. First Edition. Hardcover. Quarto. 8 in. x 5 1/2 in. x 1 1/2 in. Navy blue cloth, beveled edges, gilt lettering to front board and spine, with gilt design of the musket, powder keg and bedroll insignia of the 118th Pennvylvania Volunteers, and another graphic of a shucked ear of corn. Rubbing and fading to extremties, and still very solidly bound. Very interesting and seldom seen decorative endpapers -- a field of striated dark brown with an intricate network of dark brown veining throughout, with a pattern of falling snow covering all. Front hinge stared in several places and a three -inch seam tear to front free endpaper and following page, but again, no apparent loss to structural integrity. Previous owner's name to verso of front endpaper -- John H. Dagen.
